Features

Everything you need to explore deep‑sky catalogs.

Astro Catalogue Viewer keeps your catalog images organized, searchable, and ready for the next clear night.

New in v2.0 beta

The latest release expands catalog coverage and refines the interface across the app.

  • Finished Caldwell and NGC catalog coverage.
  • UI improvements for faster browsing and clearer layouts.
  • Direct downloads for macOS, Windows, and Linux.

Fast image grid

Zoom, search, and filter across catalogs without lag so you can scan targets quickly.

Filter by catalog and type

Drill down by Messier, NGC, IC, Caldwell, or object type to stay focused.

Object detail panel

Get metadata, zoom/pan your image, and follow external info links in one place.

Notes per object

Add capture notes and plans directly to the catalog metadata JSON.

Smart image matching

Filenames with IDs like M31, NGC7000, or IC5070 are matched automatically.

Folder flexibility

Use a master image folder or set catalog-specific folders based on your workflow.

Designed for planning your next session

Find what you have, what you want, and what you should shoot next with clarity.

The “best visibility” months are computed from RA/Dec + your latitude/longitude using a sidereal-time approximation. It’s a solid planning heuristic (altitude at midnight on the 15th of each month) and will drive the “Suggested” filter accurately.

  • Offline-safe location picker for visibility hints.
  • Metadata JSON is easy to back up and edit.
  • Works great on macOS with Python 3.10+.
